The Vampire Facial: Using Your Own Healing Platelets to Rejuvenate Your Skin

The Vampire Facial is a skin rejuvenation system. It involves microneedling the face under local anesthetic and then applying growth-factor-rich plasma that has been drawn from your own blood. These growth factors get to work repairing the skin, leaving it smoother, clearer and younger-looking.

All providers of the Vampire Facial must be licensed and approved by the Vampire Facial company. Licensed providers adhere to rigorous safety protocols necessary for any service provider working with biological fluids.

Can this procedure help you?

The Vampire Facial has proven effective for rejuvenating skin and reducing the appearance of:

Do you experience one or more of these conditions? Jonathan C Cheng at A New You Health & Wellness - The Woodlands,  can help you understand if this procedure is a good fit for you.

The science to support the procedure

You may be wondering, is this too good to be true? Smart consumers out there like you want the proof. We have it. Several scientific studies demonstrate the effectiveness of this procedure.

Here's what the studies show:

At least 18 studies support the use of Vampire Facial's patented skin rejuvenation system.

How is the procedure performed?

First, Dr. Cheng’s staff draws some blood. They then use a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma, also known as PRP or growth factor. They prepare a serum with the PRP. After applying a numbing cream to desensitize your face, Dr. Cheng uses a microneedling machine to puncture millions of tiny holes in your face.

This sounds really scary, right? The needles can vary in size from 0.2 mm to 3 mm, depending on what Dr. Cheng is treating. That's tiny, and the numbing cream removes most sensation, making it look at lot scarier than it feels.

The PRP serum can either be applied to the outside of the skin like paint and worked into the skin using the microneedles or Dr. Cheng may inject into under the skin in a method similar to Botox treatments.

Because your skin is now damaged, it gets to work healing itself immediately. It takes the PRP that you've provided it and incorporates this into new, healthier, more vibrant skin cells.

Vampire Facial versus Vampire Facelift

Some people confuse these two procedures, so it's worth mentioning that the Vampire Facelift is a similar procedure. The major difference is that the PRP serum is combined with collagen or other fillers in a syringe. This is then injected into the skin as described above.

Are there any risks?

You may have heard the story about what happened in New Mexico. A clinic was illegally providing a service that is called "Vampire Facial" without a license to do so. The clinic allegedly did not follow standard safety procedures and may have exposed clients to HIV, hepatitis and other serious diseases.

When safety procedures are followed, patients have no risk of contracting diseases through the procedure. Equipment is sterile. Needles are single-use, and you're only exposed to your own blood. People who have a compromised immune system or are on certain medications generally should not get this procedure because they are much slower to heal. This is why it is essential to visit a licensed doctor, such as Dr. Cheng to administer this procedure.
